Ionia Community Theatre

 End Notes

Letter from the Director

  Dear Audience:

On behalf of myself and Ionia Community Theatre, I would like to thank you for coming to see Fiddler on the Roof! More importantly, thank you for supporting your local theatre program. Theatre is an important way to express one’s self, and without an audience, that is impossible.

I am very excited to have worked on this show with ICT. The cast, crew and all others involved with this show were nothing short of amazing.

Fiddler on the Roof is an important show in my life for more than one reason. I remember being a child, my mother would watch the movie whenever it was on, and we had it on VHS so sometimes more than that. I remember thinking that this was one of the most boring things I had ever seen. For a child, the plotlines and existing traditions of the Jewish culture were far too complex to understand. It wasn’t until I was in high school that I was actually able to be on the inside of the show. Only then it was that I started to understand this play. My high school drama instructor, may he rest in peace, brought a love for this show out of all of us. Ever since then, I have only dreamed of being able to convey my own vision for Fiddler. ICT gave me that chance, and I could not be more appreciative.

That being said, I would like to dedicate this show to a couple of important people. First, to my loving mother, Rose Compo, thank you for exposing me to such a culturally rich show even if I did hate it then. Second, to my high school drama teacher, David Turrill, it was he who lit the theatre fire under me by casting me in my first show ever, Fiddler. So thank you Mr. Turrill, for constantly being an inspiration to us all, I hope you are watching and are proud. Lastly, to my husband, Kurt. Thank you for always supporting me and allowing me to spend so many nights away from home preparing this show.

To you, the audience, thank you. Thank you for your support. I could thank you a thousand times more.

Enjoy the show!

Amanda
