Tapestry Players

 End Notes

Weaving the Tapestry

For over 25 years I have written, produced and directed what some call "Juke Box Musicals" for Sid Davis.  The first were for a huge chancel choir's annual Dinner Theatre, but upon coming to St. Luke's it became the Babes on Broadway series for Pure Sound.  I have heard Sid say on many occasions that nothing transforms a person like being part of a show.  I can't agree more.  Something happens when everyone's individual stitches blend to form the tapestry of any production.  We've done some shows multiple times, but no two can ever be exactly alike.  It is a people thing.

"Weaving" marks the first all-church production of a new theatrical company at St. Luke's - Tapestry Players.  Our mission statement is up front and it is important.  Our goal is to create a place where everyone can come and be a part... either on-stage, back-stage, in the booth, front-of-house... or in the audience.  There is truly a place for everyone and their gifts and talents.

Tonights show has been a true joy to put together.  We are blessed at St. Luke's to have amazing musical talents - and some darn fine actors.  They are also some of my favorite people with whom to spend a LOT of time (and yet, never enough time) getting this story on its feet.  Join us in this mystical place where every desire, decision, and determination becomes a stitch in the tapestry - the story of our lives.  Even the fears.

Our next production, "Oklahoma" will be the second weekend in April in the marvelous Lowe Theatre on the St. John's campus in the next block east down Westheimer.  Following that we hope to produce "Harvey" here in the Rotunda in May.  We need a dozen good actors - six men-six women and all ages shapes and sizes.

We're off and producing... but truly... buillding a theatre company - and a community - all depends on YOU.

"If you build it - they will come" is a glorious promise, but the truth is... "If you market it - they will come" is more accurate.  If you had a good time here - let others know.  Better yet, bring them back with you.  (If you DIDN'T - let's just keep that between us...)

Being a supportive part of Tapestry Players can take many forms.  You decide where you want to fit in... Audition for a role, offer help with sets, props, lights, sound - and if you don't know how - we'll teach you!  Just show up and express an interest.  Go to www.TapestryPlayers.com and look for the Sign Up page.  We'll put you on the mailing list - and keep you posted.
