Director's Note

Welcome to the Juárez Drama Ensemble's 2020 Production of Seussical! This marks our fifth year doing a musical and our fourth year involving students from our Pilsen elementary schools. Every year the musical brings new and returning faces to the ensemble and it is a joy to work with such a large group of passionate theatre artists. It has been a real joy to bring to life onstage the various worlds of Dr. Seuss. So many members of the ensemble, myself included, were raised on his work and I hope that our love for these characters and stories is present in what we have created. Given my own fondness for these stories, I know that I felt an immense responsibility to present something onstage that would capture the sense of wonder and imagination that Dr. Seuss inspired in so many of us during our childhoods. Through the beautiful sets and lighting that Mr. Pinelli and the crew have designed and created, the Jungle of Nool, Whoville, and McElligot’s Pool have all appeared right before our eyes. Mr. Love and Mr. Martinez have once again brought their musical stylings to this score, delighting our ears and our hearts. The inimitable Ms. Jackson has ensured that whether they are Whos or Citizens of the Jungle of Nool all cast members of singing like birds. So sit back, enjoy the show, and remember that “anything’s possible.”
