The prop weapon is fired 4 times throughout the show. It is a blocked barrel prop gun, and no projectile comes out of the barrel. It does make a loud sound. If you would like to know when to prepare for the gunshot sounds, they are at the following times:
- Act 1, scene 2 in the music hall: you will hear a character say "Sheisse!" and she will fire the gun momentarily after that.
- Act 1, Scene 15: No gunshots, however small poppers are thrown onto the stage that will make some noise.
- Act 1, scene 18 in the Professor's Study: Professor Jordan will fire the gun the second time he takes it out of his pocket, after the words "pathetic, pusillanimous, petty minded-"
- Act 2, Scene 30 at The London Palladium: Hannay will ask loudly, "What are the 39 Steps?!" The gun will fire shortly after Mr. Memory begins to answer.
- Act 2, Scene 30: The gun will fire a final time while Hannay and Professor Jordan are fighting in the opera box.
