The Wizard of Oz: Youth Edition - May 01 - May 02, 2026

Creative Stages Theatre Troupe

 A Brief Explanation

So, my 11th and 12th grade English teacher, Ms. Ivey, was the Queen of Symbolism and Details. Because of her, I tend to see and/or place an abundance of symbols in almost everything.  This show is no exception.  Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz is the epitome of a tween/teenage girl.  At the beginning of our tale, she is the only burst of color in Kansas.  Some might even say she is a wee bit self-absorbed (sound familiar?)  However, through her journey, Dorothy starts to see the value in those around her.  When she finally returns home, her outlook on life and those around her has changed... hence the shift to color.

Additionally, if you look around the set, you will see little "Easter Eggs" of symbolism/connection. The Rainbow flats were designed collaboratively by the cast in honor of a dear family friend, Beth Caldwell, who passed away earlier this year.  Beth was a caring and supportive... and created beautiful and whimsical stained glass.
