DIRECTOR’S NOTE

Anything Goes is the kind of musical that just lets an audience have fun.  I’ve known for the past three years that, if I ever got the chance to direct at the high school level, I wanted this to be my first show.  From the classic Cole Porter songs to the colorful characters to the amazing dance numbers, it pulls you into its world and makes you happy to be there for two hours.  It’s comedy, romance, and musical adventure on the ocean blue all wrapped into one blissful package.

Anything Goes is set aboard the ocean liner S. S. American, where nightclub singer/evangelist Reno Sweeney is en route from New York to England. Her pal Billy Crocker has stowed away to be near his love, Hope Harcourt, but the problem is Hope is engaged to the wealthy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Joining this love triangle on board the luxury liner are Public Enemy #13, Moonface Martin and his sidekick-in-crime Erma. With the help of some elaborate disguises, tap-dancing sailors and good old-fashioned blackmail, Reno and Martin join forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s heart.

It has been a privilege to work with this cast.  I admire their talent, dedication, and creativity so much.  My greatest joy in life is seeing my actors bring a world to life on the stage, inhabit it fully, and draw the audience into it, as well.  The cast of Anything Goes has done all of that beautifully.  My simple message to all of them?  You’re the top!

And to you, our audience, I give my thanks for coming along with us on this ocean voyage.  Enjoy the show!
