Into the Woods - April 04 - April 13, 2025

Lovegood Performing Arts Company

 DIRECTOR'S NOTE

I have always been a fairy tale fanatic. Since childhood every aspect of them has appealed to my sense of how I want the world to work. The journey, the trial, defeating the monster or overcoming the obstacles. And the happy ever after. Especially the happy ever after. As I grew into adulthood my love for fairy tales remained but I discovered that there is life after happily ever after. Into the Woods is timeless because of that reality.

In my vision for this production, I wanted to create a world that straddled the fairy tale world and the contemporary world. It is set literally in the woods with a sort of a camping theme. I did this because it occurred to me that every time we go out into the world, or into the woods as the case may be, we have to face real life with whatever magic we have. Our optimism, our logic, our loyalty, our love. Witches can be right; giants can be good. The path is paved by our choices and how we respond to the consequences. Sometimes people leave you, halfway through the wood and yet, we go on. We go on because the end is not the end until it is the end.

So, as you (hopefully) enjoy this particular production of this timeless tale I invite you to listen differently. To find a nugget of wisdom or a moment of laughter to tuck into your bag of magic to help you along your way.

Big love,

Josie
