 The Directors

A Note from the Director....

Guys and Dolls kicks off my 2nd production here at LHS, and the second time I've been a part of this wonderful show. It's been phenomenal to return to this classic, full of the rememberable songs like "Luck Be a Lady" and "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat." Often times, I find that shows are hard to revisit for fear of becoming resistant to them, but not with this one. It will forever be one of my most favorite shows; full of many old, and especially new, memories.

Guys and Dolls first showed on the Broadway stage in 1950, and ran for 1200 performances. This classic has been done countless times through the years, with multiple revivals and a movie adaptation. It appeals to any audience member, whether young or old. I find that many of these older productions tend to fall into either two categories: a run-down and expired show, or a classic and vintage tale that can still relate to audience members today. I pick the latter. Even if you aren't a gambler or hotbox dancer, you can relate to the story line of finding love, sometimes not in the places you might expect, and staying true to yourself (and sometimes discovering a "new" you along the way).

To the seniors in our production, break all the legs! This is your moment to shine, and to have the time of your lives! You all have been such an amazing group of individuals, and you are going to be so missed after you leave.  I know that my time here would not be the same without all of you. You are leaving a legacy of incredible music-making, creating laughter in the classroom and rehearsals, and inspiring younger students around you. No one will ever be able to take your places, but you have given them the inspiration to step in and be a leader in their own way.

So, to all the students of this production.....have the time of your life, and remember these moments forever. I'm so proud of you all. Break a leg!
