Angela Gerdts
as Wendla Bergmann
I play Wendla, a fourteen year old girl who’s beginning to test the boundaries of her sheltered life. She likes picking flowers, looking good, and long walks by the creek. In the past I’ve played Counjure Woman in “Dark of the Moon”, a chorus member of “Urinetown”, and Kristin Strauss in “Status Update”. Although I don’t have a large history in theater, the last couple years at Winter Show and MPA’s Theater Department have been very important for me. I’ve found a community where I can let loose my angsty rants, loud music, and tendency to nap. I’m going to miss everyone after the show is over, and even more after I leave. Everyone here has incredible potential and enthusiasm for what they do. The choice of “Spring Awakening” as our Winter Show is just further proof of how forward thinking and supportive MPA’s Theater Department is. Letting students explore intense themes through characters and dialogue is a safe way for us to understand the relevance of the subject matter.

Jenny Portis
as Martha Bessel
Jenny Portis (10) plays Martha, one of Wendla's best friends. Portis has a mixture of feelings about this play. She applauds Wedekind for his ability to cut to the core of adolescence, but also says that Spring Awakening is the hardest show she has ever been a part of. This is Portis' second Winter Show and third show at MPA. When she is not doing theatre, she does debate, eats Chinese food, reads, and does anything involving Les Misérables. She dreamed a dream of becoming a doctor, an orthodontist or a tap dancer.

Jack Holter
as Hansy Rilow
Jack Holter (12) plays Hansy Rilow, a character Holter describes as too cool for everyone and a punk. He likes Spring Awakening because of its passion and maturity and is excited to have it be his last show with MPA theatre. This is his second year in Winter Show. In his spare time, he loves to play guitar, write poetry, take pictures, and paint. Even though this is his last year at MPA, he hopes to continue theatre in college.
