As the director, I’m so proud of the commitment of these students to understand the themes and story and find ways to share it with each other and with you. All of our students come from diverse backgrounds, and it’s something we are always so proud of. We’ve had enlightening conversations on the Jewish experience within this show as well as the Christian experience and the Agnostic experience, and most importantly: the human experience.
50 years ago, when Jesus Christ Superstar, was first released it met with controversy from all sides and I think it’s because no one really sat down and took the time to listen and understand the views of others. The controversy was caused by the mob mentality of hearing what others deemed as “wrong” and going with it, and whispering down the lane until it became "truth". If we all just did what our students did and just sat down and talked and really listened to each other, we’d be in a much better place today.
So I hope you take that all into consideration when you watch and listen to the show. These students have worked tirelessly to give voice to these characters and allow you to see each one for who they are.
A big thanks to all those who have helped us get here today, especially the MPHS administration, the MPHS Drama Staff, and all the MPHS Drama Parent/Caregiver volunteers. We couldn’t do this without you. I’d especially like to thank Greg Munson, who over the last two years took on the role of Producer and has worked hard to ensure this program continues to be able to produce the quality work you see every day. Thanks Greg! Can you please stay another year?
Enjoy the show, everyone
