A NOTE FROM THE PRODUCER:
As we continue to reintroduce the arts to the Newport Harbor community, the Robert B. Wentz Players tackle a fun but challenging play in Mary Chase's Pulitzer Prize winning play, Harvey.
Mr. Christopher Ramirez continues undertaking double duties this season as the director and the theater's technical director, and his efforts and commitment to our students and the program have not gone unnoticed. He has taken a cast and crew of sixteen artists and and delved into the rich world of Elwood P. Dowd.
On the surface, Harvey is a play about a man who has a six-foot tall invisible friend... who also happens to be a Pooka Rabbit... and his family who are trying to get him admitted to an asylum because of the embarrassment it brings to the family. But beneath this surface is a play is that tackles topics ranging from family insecurities and jealousies, to looking at what is deemed "societally normal", to medical assessments on acts of kindness (eyed with suspicion), as well as pre-judging and a little bit of the class system thrown in for good measure. So, sit back and enjoy this beautifully written play with it's sharp dialogue and biting yet subtle commentary on life.
