Theatre is, at its core, a collaboration. It is the very definition of community. Here in Seward that becomes even more abundantly relevant. From the moment a group of people decided to stage a musical to opening night, it is the sense of community that drives it forward.
In our small seaside town we revel in the natural beauty that surrounds us. It inspires painters, sculptors, musicians, and so many more to create unique works of art that cannot be found anywhere else. Few towns with this population can boast multiple art galleries, nightly music all summer, or the beautiful murals that seem to appear around every corner.
The talented kids in this show inspire me in a way I've never known before. They bring endless energy and a unique voice to the stage, promising years of tremendous performances. All it takes is a few prods in the right direction and a supportive collective of local artists to reveal what is a natural part of their being. It is truly amazing to have each of them give so much to the show.
As you leave tonight's performance, think about our little community. It is a collaboration here in Seward every day as we work together to build a better life for the young artists that shine so brightly. Theatre is the oldest form of art and the perfect combination of every other creative passion. It takes a village to raise a child and it takes those children to show us we are a village.
