SHE KILLS MONSTERS: Young Adventurers Edition - May 06 - May 07, 2022

Rothesay Netherwood School

 Acknowledgements

This year we were looking for a show that would be fun, exciting, and different from other plays that we had done at the school before. We stumbled upon She Kills Monsters and knew that it would align with the personal interests of some of our cast. However, there were aspects of it that were outside of our comfort zone. Largely the fight scenes, the crafting and creation of monsters, and choreographing of a dance battle. In the first few weeks of rehearsals, we discovered that Mr. Lynn, had a theatre background in stage fighting, our talented students began to make magic with glitter and hot glue and paper mache and Ms. Paddock and her team choreographed and coached our actors to create a kick-butt musical moment.  The theatre gods must have been taking care of us because things began to fall into place.

Our students have worked incredibly hard to put together a fantastic show that while humourous has some very serious topics. As characters explore their sexuality, gender identity, and the struggle to embrace all of yourself and those you love.

We want to acknowledge and thank Mrs. Roos for printing the posters and programs which feature the artwork of the talented Bella Chang. We especially thank Mrs. Ellis for supporting us the directors. We are grateful to the Grade twelve students who chose to spend their final weeks of high school as leaders in this show, both on stage and in the booth. Thank you so much for your dedication and time.

Sincerely,

Katie MacMackin & Jon Campbell
