Timberline Secondary School

Director's Notes

The origins of theatre date back to the ancient Greeks as early as the 6th century BCE. That means theatre has existed and survived for upwards of 2621 years. It has witnessed countless pandemics and has persisted through the invention of television and films, and youtube and tiktok. That is because there is something that theatre gives us that other mediums just can’t quite duplicate. There is an ‘in the moment’ magic with live theatre, and intangible power of experiencing it together.

Due to the rules on gatherings, we are missing a bit of that magic this year. But we also recognize that in challenging times it is the arts that help us persevere. When we embarked on this production we hoped for the best and tried to prepare for the worst, and constantly worked to keep our students safe and healthy amidst the ever-changing guidelines.

This required the help of some extraordinary individuals who helped us navigate the new world of streaming live to bring the performance to you. Hugh Schmid on sound and James Lewis and his team on video. Elicia Murdoch who sewed masks last minute. As well as the efforts of our production team Emma Moray, Dee Gale, Tim Linka, Paul Klein and James Lewis who helped create our set, Heather Anderson for her work backstage, and Celine Ouellette for the stunning costumes she created on top of all the other work she does. I want to also thank Timberline’s administration Laird Ruehlen and Christine Middleton for their trust and support, and belief in the importance of the arts especially in this critical time.

Thank you for taking the ride with us and supporting the hard work of these talented students who will be missing your applause.
