In times when change is constant, everything seems uncertain, and our lives are turned upside down, we turn to the arts for comfort and self-expression. However, now when we need them most, theaters across the world are dark due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With so much of the past year adjusted and rearranged for our young artists, we wanted to make something happen here in Troy and give them something to look forward to. The challenges that faced us were great. We did not know what the school year would look like when it came time to make decisions. Only two things were certain: we had to put on some sort of production and we had had to keep our students, staff, and community safe. Together as a drama family, we mourned the temporary loss of our “normal” and together we stepped into a new direction for this year.
Together we struggled to adjust to new schedules and vocal rehearsals utilizing masking and distancing. Together we learned how to sing for recorded audio instead of the performance hall and how to act for the screen and not the stage. Together we grew from a band of confused novices, blindly forging unknown trails, into a highly cohesive team of actors, musicians, and artists. Together our tears and anxiety grew into laughs and excitement. Together we sang, danced, and lifted our spirits to create a work of art that is not the only show we could put on this year, but, in fact, the GREATEST show.
We hope that you enjoy our 2021 "Pandemic Production" of THE GREATEST SHOW.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Sydney MacDonald, Director
