Abbey Players

  Director's Note

Theatre has been a part of my life since my 7th grade year. My school started a theatre program with Kaleigh Lay as the director, and with her motivation and encouragement, I was put on the path that led me to today. I continued to do theatre every year since then, with COVID-19 being the only thing to stop me.

Fast forward to 2018, I find Daddy Long Legs while searching for new hidden gems to listen to. This simple two person show hooked me in immediatley, and I found myself telling everyone who would listen! One of those individuals, Kady, who I performed with at the time. We had planned to produce this show at UL Lafayette for her capstone project, but it never saw the light of day. Eventually, we heard that Billy Walker was interested in doing the show, so the three of us and my now beautiful wife, Lanie, pitched it to Abbey Players. After some back and forth, we finally had our show dates!

I've mostly done performing or Music Direction for shows, so I had plenty to learn once we started working on this show. I never realized how much work a director actually does to make sure the show sees the finish line. As stubborn as I am, I tried to do it all myself, but my wife had to remind me that I have so many wonderful people in the theatre community who would be willing to help if I just ask for it. Sure enough, my wife was right.

Nothing about this show could have been successful without the help of few important pieces to the puzzle of Daddy Long Legs:

Abbey Players for allowing us into their space, and giving Acadiana a chance to see something that most haven't even heard of.

Catherine, Bram, and Michelle for staying late to help paint, organize props, and detail set pieces.

Kady and Billy for adding another item to their already busy calendars, and putting all of their effort into making this show a reality

My beautiful wife, Lanie, for being patient with me while we designed lights, working out behind-the-scenes issues, and reminding me each day why I couldn't be happier with anyone else.

Lastly, you, the audience member that came to see this show! Your support and attendance is what keeps local theatre alive! Performing arts provide an escape not only for the audience, but also the performer, the techie, or even those in the front of the house.

Thank you again for choosing to watch our show! We hope you spread the word about your experience her at Daddy Long Legs, and keep supporting local art!
