Bright Star: The Musical - July 17 - July 20, 2025

Act II Players

 Directors Note

A Note from the Directors

From the very first rehearsal to the final bow, BRIGHT STAR has been a labor of love—and laughter, and snacks, and more than a few happy tears.

Working together as a mother-daughter team has been one of the greatest joys of this process. We’re grateful to Act II Players—not only for trusting us with this story, but for being what might just be the kindest group of humans we’ve ever met. Truly. This cast, crew, and creative team have filled every rehearsal with warmth, grace, generosity, and a deep love for storytelling. It’s been a dream.

For Juliet, BRIGHT STAR holds a special, shimmering place in the heart. Growing up, her Grandpa lovingly called her “Star.” When he passed, she was performing in HAIR and thought of him every night while singing “Good Morning Starshine.” This past year brought some unexpected storms, and in seeking light again, a full-circle moment arrived—this star, this BRIGHT STAR, was waiting. It’s been a journey of joy, healing, and a beautiful reminder of the power of music and story to lead us home. (Emotionally, of course—she’s back to NYC on Monday.)

For Ava, BRIGHT STAR is a testament to what a mother’s love can do—the strength it holds, the sacrifices it makes, and the light it leaves behind. This story resonates deeply as a reflection of how, even in our darkest times, it is our inner strength—and the love we give and receive—that carries us forward. Directing this show alongside her daughter has been both a personal and artistic gift, and the community that’s formed in the rehearsal room has been nothing short of extraordinary. Theatre, at its best, reminds us we’re not alone. This production has done exactly that.
