It is wonderful to create a show where everyone is invited to speak up, contribute their ideas, and have their interests be seen center stage. While the magic of musical theatre always involves a group of people coming together to create a show, it’s a whole other experience when a show honors everyone’s ideas that were created in the process.
As an Autistic Director embarking on leading a full musical, I kept wondering how to ensure everyone’s idea gets a spotlight. There was never a concern about wondering how to work with a room filled with fellow autistic and neurodiverse creatives. While there might be challenges or hard days along the way, the idea of creating a show that the entire company was proud of keeps driving us forward.
