A Note from ACT’s Artistic Director
Thank you for coming to see our production of The Holiday Time Travelers, the world premiere of a story I’ve had in my mind for almost ten years about how hardship and being bullied as a young child shaped the boy Ebenezer Scrooge into the unkind grownup he became.
Focusing on the result of bullying amongst the siblings in modern times, as well as in the past for Ebenezer Scrooge, our story ultimately is one of hope and kindness, as our modern teen and tween realize how much they have to be grateful for and that it’s better to be kind towards others, starting right at home.
I’m grateful to the playwright Cameron Noel who helped shape my ideas into the story you’ll see tonight as well as for his direction of the play, along with co-producer Lisa Vohra who has been a guiding light, bringing this story to life onstage with her clear vision and observations.
Ever since humans began to tell stories, theatre and storytelling have been a refuge during difficult times and relationships. We hope this performance is a bit of an escape from whatever cares you may have right now, and that you’ll consider letting the children in your life come back to a Saturday class with us this winter at Burgundy, that they can attend our Spring break camp in Del Ray, or a summer camp at Episcopal High School or here. With our dedicated teaching artists at Alexandria Children’s Theatre, every voice is heard.
Wishing you good health and joy this holiday season,
Roberta Cullen
