Fame - July 31 - August 02, 2014

Aligning Stars Theatre Company

 End Notes

The story of Fame takes place during the years of 1980 and 1984, but the struggles of the characters are timeless.  They face racism, literacy, poverty, self worth, anxiety, parental pressure, love, sexism, intimancy,  drug addiction, and death amongst thier classmates.  I felt it was important not to sugar coat the issues, because they are issues that these actors have, or most likely will deal with in thier real life. Over the course of the summer I have found the heart of Fame, yes it is a fun rock musical with lots of dancing and singing, but it is way more than that.   This is how teens act, this is how teens talk, this is how teens deal with life, thier thoughts just happen to be set to music.  I see the student characters in the faces of my students, I see the teacher characters in myself.  These Are my Children.
