Schoolhouse Rock Live! -

Ankeny High School

  Director's Note

As the saying goes, the show must go on! Never has that been more true than now. Theatre in the time of COVID has presented many unique challenges, but it has also reminded us of the magic of performing. Despite the many hurdles and roadblocks along the way, this incredible group of students has been hard at work bringing this production to life.

At the beginning of the year, I questioned whether a musical would even be possible this semester. Amid staging restrictions, social distancing, limited audiences, and an ever-changing schedule, we needed a show that was equally flexible. The nostalgia and joy of our favorite childhood songs made Schoolhouse Rock LIVE! the perfect choice.

We have loved revisiting classic tunes and introducing a new generation to the joys of Conjunction Junction, Interplanet Janet, and the whole Schoolhouse Rock repertoire.

Producing this musical would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of this department. PJ Hurley continues to find creative ways to instill in our students not only lifelong skills, but also a love for theatre. Ben Walters used his expertise to turn familiar songs into showstoppers, truly giving life and finesse to this show. Lisa Wegner and Trevor Zielinski worked behind the scenes to create the theatre magic we have long been missing. I am so grateful to have each of them on my team.

Along with this wonderful department, I also have my personal production crew to thank. Adam, Meghna, Minnie, and countless others have offered unending love and support to help me raise the curtain on this show.

Against all odds, we did it! It took the endless effort, patience, and energy from a driven and dedicated team. We are so delighted to present Schoolhouse Rock LIVE!

On with the show!
