Director's Note
When I think of the stories of Robin Hood, I don't think of the several movies that have come out over the years - not Errol Flynn nor the animated fox - not Kevin Costner or Cary Elwes or even Russel Crow - or any of the rest. When I think of Robin Hood, I think of the book I checked out of the children's section in the Hutchinson Public Library over and over again when I was a small child. While I don't remember the name (and the only pictures were black-and-white drawings) there was something about the adventure - and the fight for right - that kept drawing me back. I think that is why the Robin Hood stories, going all the way back to the 15th century or earlier, have captivated so many people - the adventure and the fight for justice. Ken Ludwig's retelling of these stories is a comedy, and yet is faithful to the spirit of those stories, so you will find all of that - adventure, romance and justice. It will be a tale that moves you to action, even as you laugh. So, sit back, relax (if you can,) and join us for this exiting trip through Sherwood!
Special Thanks… ~ Just a few more things – There are a few people that I would like to thank: First, I want to thank Joy Pace and Aaron Barton. They were my eyes to see what I missed, as well as able to cover all the things I forgot or simply couldn't get to. Without them, this show would have fallen apart before the first rehearsal. I would also like to thank Lacey Spivey, and all the cast members who helped with makeup. Rhonda Price took charge as set artist, and several members of the cast (you know who you are) helped with set constuction. Erin Kimbrough created some of our set pieces, and Danette House really made a difference with some of the props. I would like to thank Shawn Stump for once again taking charge of lights and sound. And I would like to thank my wife Michelle and my children Miriam, Micah and Hannah - even if over the last few weeks they may have forgotten who I am, since I have spent more time at the theater than at home.
ONE MORE NOTE – You probably can't help but notice that a number of businesses have sponsored our production this evening. PLEASE make it worthwhile for those businesses. Without them, it would not be possible to put on this show. And tell them you saw their ad in our program.
