A Note from the Director

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for joining us for this very special production of SEUSSICAL.

When people hear the name Dr. Seuss, they immediately think of his “simple children’s stories.”  But, when you stop to think about it, his stories are really not all that “simple.”  His stories teach life lessons from which people of all ages can learn.  Dr. Seuss believed in helping others, in not giving up, and in fulfilling promises.  The character of Horton, the Elephant embodies all of this.  Dr. Seuss also believed in the value of dignity of others, in working to preserve the fragile sweetness of the natural world, and he believed that peace is the ultimate ideal in every heart.  Lastly, he believed in the pure power of imagination.  It doesn’t take much “digging into his stories” to discover the presence of his beliefs.  SEUSSICAL certainly includes everything that was in Dr. Seuss’ heart.

I have had the wonderful pleasure of performing SEUSSICAL twice.  In one production, I played a Wickersham Brother.  In another production, I was the Cat in the Hat.  So, when some ACT board members approached me this past spring about the possibility of directing this show, it did not take much persuasion.  I had already known the beauty that lies within.  It has been quite a wonderful experience working with the ACT community.  There is so much that goes into producing a musical.  From staging the show, music direction, costumes, and make-up to set construction, lights, sounds, programs, advertising, and much more; it really does take a village to put together a show of this kind.  There are so many people to thank, I’m afraid that if I started to do so by name, that I would miss someone.  So, my heartfelt gratitude goes out to all who played a part in bringing SEUSSICAL to life.
