“I thank you one and all, the ones who thought I’d fall, who taught me how to fail, who helped me to prevail. I’m standing here today, cuz you helped me find my way.”
This is one of our favorite lines from the show. As two people who have spent our lives pursuing our passion for all things musical, we can both safely say we have had our fair share of failures but, also a great number of successes.
Up until this point, Michael and I had done nearly everything in the theatre world: singing, dancing, vocal coaching, choreographing, accompanying, and probably more. Neither of us, however, had been able to add the term DIRECTOR to our resume. Well, that is no longer the case.
Three years ago in Madison, Michael and I saw a production of Legally Blonde The Musical, a show neither of us knew anything about. From the moment the curtain went up to the moment it came back down we never stopped smiling. We left with new melodies stuck in our head that we had to hear more of. That was where our love for this show began. When we were selected to lead this production we immediately picked this show and began our work.
Legally Blonde is at its heart, a musical about being true to yourself, and determining your own future. We all face challenges in our lives. Some are obvious, and some we may not even realize are there at first. In the end it is how we face those challenges that shows who we really are as people.
We both sincerely hope that you leave this theatre as happy as we did at our first Legally Blonde experience. We have to say, even after two months of working on this show it still brings the same smile to our faces every day. Michael and I are so thankful for the opportunity to bring this show to the Al Ringling stage. Thank you for supporting the arts and the students of Baraboo High School.
A very special thank you to the students involved in this production. This is one of the hardest pieces of theater we have faced and by their hard work and persaverance we are able to bring it to you. They are the real reasons for our enthusiasism, and we are sure you will see what we mean.
Enjoy,
Amanda Lang and Michael Etzwiler
