We held auditions for this production of The Last Five Years almost exactly a month ago. This has been a super fast project, and rather than preach to you about what you're about to see, I’ll tell you a bit about what I’ve learned.
I’ve learned that student theater is a tricky landscape to navigate but with the right people anything is possible. I’ve learned that you can’t be afraid to ask for what you want because that’s the only way to get things done. I’ve learned that sometimes you have to get creative with the rehearsal spaces you have and sometimes you have to fend for yourselves without a props or costume budget. I’ve learned that sometimes you get super lucky and get the best cast, crew, and production team in the entire world. Without Audrey and Campbell, J and Mikalah, Alex, Annie, and Sarina, Julia and Julie, and the incredible Sophia, I couldn’t have done a thing. The Last Five Years is about a failed relationship on different timelines, featuring two incredibly complicated characters and a complicated score to match. There is so much to learn from this show, just as I’ve learned from this experience. But enough from me. Welcome to New York :)
