Every year as a theatre educator brings certain needs, different from the year before. This year presented us with the need for connectedness and empathy. With all of the difficulties in our communities, nation, and world, it always serves others when we focus on serving and listening. More than ever, I was called to create a show that was appropriate and interesting to all ages, which led me to Seussical The Musical.
In this show, we meet the beloved Cat in the Hat as he narrates the story of Horton the Elephant and his colorful friends, including the loud and Sour Kangaroo, colorful, harmonizing birds, and trouble-making monkeys. With them, we embark on a whirlwind journey from the Jungle of Nool to New York City, Palm Beach, the Circus McGurkas — even Barrington, Rhode Island! It’s all to help a young thinker named Jojo bring peace back to the tiny planet of Who.
Seussical teaches us to emulate many foundational traits — traits for students, parents, teachers, and every friend in between. Here are just a few:
- Loyalty: “I meant what I said, and I said what I meant, an elephant’s faithful, one hundred percent.”
- Friendship: “One small voice in the universe, one true friend in the universe, who believes in me.
- Community: “A person’s a person, no matter how small.”
- Imagination: “Anything’s possible!”
This show allows for an interactive and engaging experience filled with multicolored lights, fun and zany costumes, and a lot of audience participation! We hope you have fun, learn a lot, and use your imagination — “Oh, the thinks you can think, when you think about Seuss!”
Thank you for coming and please enjoy our show!
