Finding Nemo JR. - July 11 - July 13, 2025

 BASTROP OPERA HOUSE

It takes a whole reef to raise a show!

In just two weeks, a fearless team of grown-ups somehow managed to transform a theater full of wiggly sea creatures into a full-blown production of Finding Nemo Jr., and lived to tell the tale.

Lisa and Dustin navigated the coral maze of blocking (with only minimal flailing), while Dustin also led morning theatre games that doubled as cardio. Jerrica and the kids busted morning warm ups to the Electric Slide and YMCA like it was their job, because apparently it was.

Marc and Cynthia didn’t just teach songs, they built an entire ocean of sound. From shy soloists to full-cast harmonies, they patiently guided our fishy cast through tricky rhythms and underwater oohs and ahhs.

Rachel turned cardboard and pool noodles into an undersea wonderland, all while juggling three sewing machines, a hot glue gun, and a tech crew learning on the fly. Fueled by caffeine and sheer willpower, she taught kids to sew, staple, and paint without anyone getting glued to the floor.

Meanwhile, Yvonne and Shiloh bravely dove into the deep end, teaching an entire cast of sea creatures how to move like the ocean itself, from synchronized fish sways to full-on reef rave choreo. If it had rhythm and fins, they taught it. And Judah and Jerrica were everywhere at once, teleporting kids to the right place at the right time like theatre ninjas.

Michelle didn’t just teach stage management, she was stage management. She wrangled whiteboards, managed the organized chaos, adjusted the schedule daily, and ran more spreadsheets than a NASA launch team. Jason ensured tech was ready before anyone had time to panic, and when he wasn’t planning tech, he acted as our unofficial bouncer, guarding the front door like a Broadway bodyguard.

And finally, to the heroic parents and grandparents who got everyone to camp on time, remembered the black base costumes, and listened to Big Blue World 187 times without losing their minds: you deserve your own standing ovation.
