Shrek The Musical Jr - May 24 - May 25, 2016

Bethune Elementary School of the Arts (Hollywood, FL)

 End Notes

What a year!

Thank you to everyone whose time, talent, resources and support made this show possible.

Things are always changing, and we can say without a doubt that we prepared our students this year to adapt to change.

We're grateful to the Bethune Elementary Administrative team, our homeroom teachers, support staff, custodial staff and front office staff because of how much they value the Performing and Visual Arts department at Bethune Elementary.

I am particularly grateful for:

  • The Performing and Visual Arts Team here at Bethune Elementary;
  • Our Administration for giving us some big visions to carry out;
  • Our visionary technical director Daimien Matherson who drove from Jupiter, Florida several days a week to make sure that we had a show worthy of our school;
  • Our teachers and staff who donated items to our set;
  • Our PVA parents and volunteers;
  • The Broward Center for the Performing Arts staff for their leadership;
  • My mom who listened to me worry one day too many;
  • The Turnaroundarts team at Bethune and with the School Board of Broward County for moving mountains;
  • Cameron Diaz for making time in her schedule to give our students feedback and love.

We hope that you watch this production knowing that every student in the show has come A MIGHTY LONG WAY from the beginning of the year. Their maturity is astounding to someone who has watched them grow up, become more thoughtful and take creative risks.

Please don't sit back and expect to be entertained like a movie or music concert. Children respond to your energy. Look for the good and let them know their hard work is appreciated. They will continue to rise to your high expectations if you do.

It has been my pleasure to be their Theatre teacher.

Ms. Nerissa Street
