Middle of Nowhere: An Exploration of Place and Time
Middle of Nowhere is our first step in the creation of an original musical that will follow the lives of three young women who find themselves in Gander during the early years of World War II. Each woman unique. Each from a different country. Each woman finding themselves in the middle of nowhere because of a sense of duty and their pursuit of something more. The working title for the new production is Diverted.
Gander and the era will provide the rich material in which this story will grow. Middle of Nowhere is an opportunity for us to work with our young artists in a meaningful way to mine the past and better understand the period we are working in. We hope the work we initiate this season will lead to the creation of a variety of artistic developments, not all for the stage. We will not be rushing to a finish line. The true value of our end product is directly connected to the growth of our artists along the way. The artists involved will assist with the creation of the material through a process of research, rehearsal and experimentation.
During the first iteration of this show the audience will be introduced to the outcome of our early efforts through an evening of storytelling and song.

This developmental piece will continue to evolve with each performance staged during the 2019 season, providing a unique opportunity for information collection and the advancement of the young artists involved.
Beginning in September, material collected throughout the summer season, and insights gleamed from the performances themselves, will be utilized by a group of young artists enrolled in The Lab, a program develped by Beyond for experimentation and advancement of artistic study.
