Directors’ Note:

Thank you for supporting Bishop Guilfoyle’s Drama Club.

This may not be the first time you have seen “Into The Woods,” but this is probably the first time you have seen a production like this. If you have never seen "Into The Woods", this musical is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault fairy tales following the stories of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel. These characters' lives are intertwined by an original story driven by a Baker and his wife on their quest to break an evil witch's curse on his family lineage.

For the benefit of the students, as co-directors, we pushed for the students to think outside the box of what they imagine “Into The Woods” to look like and we encourage you to do the same. Our set design pays homage to the two locations where the musical takes place, home and the wilderness. Lighting and smaller set pieces are used to identify space. Ensemble actors take on unusual roles that are not usually cast in a traditional production of “Into The Woods.” The costumes are a classic take on these characters with some modern touches.

We believe that by exposing the students to a more modern interpretation of “Into The Woods,” students onstage and behind the scenes have been exposed to new skills and that the production has honed in on the heart of the show: no one is alone. Sometimes our life decisions conflict with what we believe, but in the end you are not alone. Life, much like fantasy, is what we make it to be.

The students would not be where they are today without the support of faculty, parents, volunteers, and our sponsors. Thank you for your support.
