Notes from MB

I am so excited to bring to stage one of my favorite musical scores on the market! The work of Ahrens and Flaghtery has always impressed me, their ability to write varying scores like "Once on This Island", "Seussical", and "Ragtime." But I have been teaching my voice students songs from this musical for years and it has always been a dream of mine to direct this show!
This semester has had it's own challenges, as cast members and staff have gone through a lot of hard situations, but one of the biggest "proud momma" moments I have had with these kids is when we opened the door for the 7th and 8th graders to join us. Not one time have I seen the older kids looking down on the younger. In fact, they have accepted them with open arms and I couldn't be more proud of their Christ like attitude. Our middle schoolers stepped up and into roles we couldn't have otherwise filled and you would never know that more than half this cast has never stepped foot on stage until this semester. I am so excited to grow these kids and for the coming years at BCT.
Another big change is the new stage floor, new techincal equipment, and electrical work we had done over this semester. A big thanks to Blackhawk Christian Ministries, Streibig Construction, Towler Electric, Tim and Kaden Marker, and others for supporting us, updating our space, and making this experience so incredible. And no more snapping together the stage floor! Praise the Lord!
Lastly, I have been speaking to the kids about identity, and how to find our identity as a co-heir of Christ. As a creative, it's hard not to base your identity in peformance and the feedback of others. But as we look to the truth of scripture, we know that the only identity that matters is the one we inherit when we receive Christ's sacrifice on the cross, as well as his resurrection, as our marker of salvation. When we repent and believe, we become inheriters of the greatest kingdom of all! And that is the only thing we need to know to truly believe that we have value in this world. That we matter, not because of how we look or what we do, because we are part of a kingdom collective. It is something that we need to continue to embed into the spritual root system of our young people, so that when tough times come their way, they can be the well watered tree that withstands what life throws at them. I, too ,hope that you remember that it's not if hard times fall, but when, and that your identity as a co-heir of Christ is the only answer you'll need when you face the inevitable question, "Who am I?" You, my friend, are a prince or princess of the greatest kingdom in eternity, if you call Christ your Savior and King.
