Welcome to Blue Springs City Theatre's first-ever Penguin Project production of Annie Jr.! My heart is filled with pride and gratitude as I reflect on this incredible journey, and I'm thrilled to share this special night with all of you.
The Penguin Project is more than just a program — it's a family. Over the past four months, I’ve had the privilege of watching our young artists and their mentors form bonds, conquer challenges, and discover the magic of theater together. Every laugh, every breakthrough, and every shared triumph has been a reminder of the power of inclusion and the pure joy of creative expression.
Watching our artists step into the world of Annie Jr. has been nothing short of inspiring. They’ve poured their hearts into learning lines, songs, and choreography — but more importantly, they’ve shown us the true meaning of resilience, friendship, and believing in yourself. The story of Annie teaches us that even in the toughest times, hope and love can light the way. Our cast embodies that message in every moment on stage.
I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the entire Penguin Project team, including Dr. Andy Morgan and the Foundation staff, for helping us launch this amazing program in Blue Springs. Katia, Sophie, Gracie, Hemdah, John, Rachel, and Katie – thank you for joining our journey during this first year of the program; every one of you has been invaluable to its success.
To all of the parents and families: Thank you for your unwavering support and dedication. Whether it was getting your kids to rehearsals, helping them practice at home, setting up for online rehearsals when the weather got in the way, or scrambling to find last-minute costume items — your efforts have been truly remarkable. From providing snacks to being their biggest cheerleader, your commitment has made all the difference. We couldn’t do it without you!
I’d like to give a special shout-out to a few specific people for their additional support: Deborah Morgan and Casey Henson, for tackling the mountain of costumes and ensuring everyone had what they needed to bring their characters to life; Siobhan Sullivan, for organizing the raffles to provide additional financial support for this program, and to the Ditzler Family for your help on move-in day.
To everyone involved: your encouragement, patience, and belief in these young performers have made this experience possible. I am endlessly grateful for your trust and support. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Tonight, let your cheers be loud and your applause be endless because every performer on this stage is a true star. Thank you for being part of this unforgettable night!
