From the Director:
In 1997, I first played the role of the dastardly Fagin in a wonderful production of Oliver! at Salina Community Theatre. I've always wanted to reprise that role, but I didn't think it would be 17 years before it happened. I also never thought I'd direct the show, but when presented with the opportunity to do both for Broadway RFD, I couldn't resist. Oliver! is a classic musical with songs everyone remembers, from "Consider Yourself" to "Who Will Buy?" And it has some of the most memorable characters created, thanks to the boundless imagination of Charles Dickens. So enjoy the show and the cast, which consists of multiple generations of performers, as they present the timeless story of the little boy who just wanted "more."
History of Broadway RFD:
Established in 1959, Broadway RFD is the longest running outdoor theatre in Kansas. It is a community-based, volunteer-run, not-for-profit organization dedicated to producing the highest quality theatrical performances and educational experiences possible.
In the summer of 2009, Broadway RFD celebrated their 50th year. In the spirit of this milestone, Annie Get Your Gun, Broadway RFD's first production, was staged as a tribute to our inaugural year. Other recent summer musical performances include Willy Wonka (2011), Pirates of Penzance (2012), and Guys and Dolls (2013).
Broadway RFD recently expanded its calendar, often seeking to collaborate with other local organizations. This past year, it presented Darling, You Slay Me, a dinner theatre presented at and catered by the Swedish crown; Nathan the Wise in collaboration with Bethany College; and a Youth Theatre Camp designed to teach children about the arts.
