The Phantom of the Opera - March 14 - March 23, 2024

Brunswick High School

  Director's Notes

Welcome to our production of 'Phantom of the Opera'! This year, we embark on an extraordinary journey, made possible by the talent of our cast, the dedication of our crew, the unwavering support of our parents, and the exceptional teaching talents of our Music Director, Ashley Albert. Ashley's expertise and guidance have been instrumental as we navigate the intricacies of the opera score, which is known for its complexity and demands.

Accompanied by a magnificent 25-piece orchestra directed by Brandon Duras, we are poised to bring this timeless tale to life in a way that will captivate and enchant our audiences.

The attention to detail displayed by our parents, from set construction to costume design, has transformed our stage into the grandeur of 19th-century Paris. Despite the set building challenges, our dedicated crew has overcome every obstacle to create a stunning backdrop for our performance. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to them for their hard work and perseverance, especially to Clair Siggins, Paul Benham, and Rob and Charity Kaiser for their invaluable contributions.

We also extend our gratitude to our wonderful costumers, Jenny Driscoll and Gretchen Fiess, for their dedication and skill in creating beautiful costumes. Additionally, we are thankful to the Maine State Music Theater for the loan of their gorgeous and grand costumes, which have added an extra layer of authenticity to our production. A special thank you goes to our T-shirt sponsors, Goodwin Motors of Brunswick and Maine Steamer Trunk Company, whose generosity has made it possible for every student to receive a T-shirt. This groundbreaking initiative is a first for the BHS Players, and we are incredibly grateful for their support.

Behind the scenes, Michael Millett's tireless efforts, serving as both our producer and set director, ensure every aspect of our production runs smoothly. Additionally, we are grateful for the spectacular lighting designs by Paul Wyman, which enhance the atmosphere and drama of our performance.

As we rehearsed, I knew that we had created something spectacular, and I’m sure you will agree. We extend our sincerest thanks to our audience for supporting our students and their dedication to the arts.
