“And now for something completely different…”
Ever since its debut, Spamalot has been on of my favorite musicals. Is it because we got to see the original cast? Is it because, at its core, it is Monty Python & the Holy Grail but with more musical numbers? Is it because each of those numbers is more ridiculous than the one before? Perhaps it is because British Comedies such as Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Are You Being Served, & Fawlty Towers were always on every evening in my house? No matter the reason, I am not alone. Everyone involved in this production is a fan.
It takes a village to raise a Musical & this one is no exception:
-Many thanks to the entire Cast for all of their hard work & dedication. It been a while since I’ve gotten to work with “adults” & laughing all through rehearsals til my tummy hurt was a lovely welcome back.
-Thank you to the Production Team members who are “new” to me. Working on a Miss Brenda show is no easy feat & yeesh-this one was a beast. But everyone went out of their way (& sometimes outside their job descriptions) to help get all of these moving parts together.
-Thank you to Jim. This show would simply not have been possible without his (evil) genius. Next time, I’m thinking I’ll get my “scaffolding & red lights”
-An especially huge thank you to both Peg & Anna. This Musical Season is certainly one for the ages & the amount of pinch hitting you both did for me this year has certainly hit a new record. I am forever grateful. I’d like to think that after this we will enjoy some time off from each other but-in reality-we’re already planning the next one. But its cool. We’ll bounce. Go Lancers.
-Thank you to my family—who are always good for a Snuggle Puddle. I am extremely lucky that my Husband Brian is also a Theatre Person. His understanding & support is invaluable during Musical Season. Thank you to my daughter Bailey, who has dubbed herself my “Assistant” & even had a few good suggestions for this show. And shout out to our Pippa, my familiar, who is always prepared for kisses at a moments notice.
-Lastly, this marks my first “adult” show without my partner in crime Dennis Dougherty somewhere behind the scenes or on stage. This one was certainly on our To Do List although I can’t remember if it was my turn to Direct or his…either way, I sincerely believe that he’s been cracking up throughout this rehearsal process just as much as I have. Most likely even more so. There is an old Irish saying that goes “A good laugh & a long sleep are the two best cures for anything.” Dennis would probably add one or two more things to that proverb…but still, the sentiment remains true.
With that please sit back, relax, turn off your brains, & do enjoy the delightful chaos that is Spamalot.
Thank you all so much for supporting BCF.
…It is a silly place.

P.S. This show is dedicated to my Mom, for whom all comedies are performed. However because this one is Monty Python, it is also dedicated to Dad.
P.P.S. Brenda likes to read.
