DIRECTORS NOTE

Same Time, Next Year was originally produced on Broadway in 1975 and later adapted into a 1978 feature film starring Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyn, reprising her Tony-winning role. Butterfield mounted its own production in the 1980s and we are happy to be reviving it nearly forty years later.

This is a nostalgic, quirky, and touching look at twenty-five years of American culture and the relationship between two individuals with different lives. Same Time, Next Year is not merely the story of their illicit affair, but the changing nature of relationships over time.

We hope you enjoy Butterfield’s 2021 production of Same Time, Next Year
