DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
Wow!!! What a year this has been… Part of me honestly can’t believe that we are heading off into our third show of the year. When school went entirely remote last spring, my students were so down, the theatre world had gone dark. We were literally 2 days away from our first UIL One Act Play contest. It came as such a shock to be completely ready to do a show and then nothing…
So, each fall we host the district-wide Middle School Musical and we began the process virtually back in April, not knowing that we would still be in the middle of a global pandemic going into 2021. We cast the show virtually, held virtual rehearsals, and held our breath. Our High School students worked tirelessly in the background just thankful for a glimmer of hope on the horizon. Next thing I knew we were in August, getting ready to bring the Middle Schoolers back for in person rehearsals and to get a show up, and running. It took a little longer than expected and we had to search for just the right masks for the show, but 7 months after the process began, “Shrek, Jr.” opened and closed to rave reviews without a hitch and my High School student’s spirits were renewed. If the Middle School kids could do it, so could they. They began to dream again and “Godspell” is the fruit of those dreams. It is the ultimate story of hope, timely and unswervingly relevant.
