Dear CBC Parents, dancers, and patrons,
Welcome to CBC’s 2023 Nutcracker. Our talented dancers have invested countless hours in recent months, honing their skills through diligent practice in class and focused rehearsals, and they are so excited to share this performance with you!
Producing a full-length Nutcracker is an immense undertaking for any organization. There are many roles to fill, big production numbers to cast and rehearse, and a lot of choreography to learn, all of which takes a teamwork, dedication, and tenacity. What has made this year’s performance so remarkable is that the median age of our “advanced students”, including all of the solo roles, is 11.6 years old. (Let me say that again - 11.6 years old!) What an incredible opportunity for our dancers! To say I am proud of these students and their work ethic is an incredible understatement. They are taking on principal and corps roles that are normally performed by professional ballerinas many years their senior. The skill, artistry, and professionalism that these dancers display at such a young age is extraordinary. To see these young dancers fully embrace this responsibility and embody these complicated roles in a full-length story ballet is nothing short of incredible.
Thank you all for being here tonight to support these remarkable students. Through their many hours of practice and teamwork in preparing for this production, lasting friendships have been formed and treasured memories created that will stay with them for a lifetime. I hope that through this performance you are filled with immense pride in their accomplishments. I know I am. These students are my greatest source of pride and working with them each day fills my heart.
With gratitude,
Ms. Killian
