Is He Dead? - September 29 - October 02, 2016

Cape Central High School

 End Notes

A Note from the Director…

The overwhelming dark cloud that surrounds a high school theatre program each minute of each day of each year is the ticking of the clock on these short four years we have with each other.  This year will be our largest senior class yet, and at the end of this very short year we will have to say goodbye. “…venn ze world has a master it lets him shtarve, und venn he iss dead, zenn he iss recognized und he makes all zese riches.”

Our students will never be placed on pedestals, they will not have their faces on posters, they will not have the recognition that is customary for their peers.  Two responses occur in this case: 1.) accept this as a reality and fade off into obscurity, or 2.) take this as challenge to continue to grow and prosper until finally, hopefully, acknowledgement comes.

I bet you can guess which response we chose.  In just two years, the program before you has tripled in size, thrown in the theatrical gauntlet at the state level, and is now present in 3 different collegiate theatre programs.  To continue to challenge ourselves, we are adding an additional Mainstage Production.  Aside from creating shows our students will be competing for scholarships, showing off their knowledge in the Tech Olympics, as well as running for Student State Office – you know, and keeping up with their academic and social lives.

I cannot wait to see what these young artists create!  And indeed, I will never be able to truly understand the weight of their knowledge and the level of artistry they contribute to the program until this year is over and they are gone.  Yet, another dark shadow which will begin to weigh heavier as the year progresses.

As the show begins, please remember that this is a completely student run program and boy, will they be running this year!  Our largest senior class, our largest season, and our largest sets to date!  We ask that you sit back, relax, and join us on this roller coaster of a season…and maybe you too will be breathing a sigh of relief in May as we all declare…”I’m not dead  yet!”
