Footloose: Youth Edition - April 19 - April 22, 2023

Carl Sandburg Middle School

 End Notes

From the Director

  • I am very proud of this production.  Our students helped pick this show at the end of last year and I am very excited that our season this year was all about young people making a difference in their communities.  The students have taken such amazing leadership roles in this show from mentoring new students to leading their design teams and helping out at the drop of the hat.  Their amazing effort since January has led to a show of great quality and professionalism.  Our students here at Sandburg always amaze me with the work they turn out and their enthusiasm to learn from whoever comes in whether it be an alumni who is helping manage a production or a theatre professional who is teaching them the amazing choreography you will see on stage tonight. The end result is a show full of heart, energy, support, and enthusiasm and may just a little pinch of nostalgia.  I hope you all enjoy the show.
  • I would like to say a big thank you to Dr. Tara Taylor for being an amazing leader for our county wide theatre program and our biggest cheerleader.
  • Thank you to Mr. Underhill, Mr. Carter and the After School team, and the Fine and Performing Arts Department at Sandburg for being such a great support system for our students while putting this show on.
  • To my mom and dad for being the best support system always.
  • To my 8th graders for sticking with me for two years whether you did one show or all 4. You made these shows amazing and helped everything happen smootly and easily. Congratulations for finishing out the year in a strong and amazing way!  I am so proud of you and everything you have accomplished. Keep doing theatre on the stage and behind the scenes and let me know when your shows happen.
  • For my Advanced Students: Jackie, Adrian, Allison B, Allison M, Payton, and Vi: Thank you thank you thank you.  I am so immensely proud of all of the different things you have accomplished over your two years of theatre.  PLEASE keep doing theatre and let me know whenever you do shows. The ways I've see you grown into actors and writers and leaders has been amazing.
    • Jackie - you've become my right hand and are just a supremely talented Asst. Director.  Keep it up, the world of theatre needs more self confident, organized, boss female directors.
    • Adrian - you've grown so much as an actor from beginning theatre.  You've got such a talent for comedy and such a quick wit.  I'll miss you coming to say hello every class period.
    • Allie B - thank you for all of the organization and hardwork backstage.  You have been an essential crew member this year on both shows and I know you have helped beyond the crew you volunteered for.  Thank you for embodying the "responsible" and "team player" aspects of a good crew member.  It has been wonderful watching your confidence grow over these past 2 years.
    • Allie M - you are such a lovely actress and you've got such a talent for bringing out moments of emotional vulnerability and your voice keeps growing.  Keep at it lady.  You have some wonderful parts ahead of you.
    • Payton - you are one of the nicest people I have ever met and one of the best people to have in a cast because you are so supportive of everyone.  Please always keep that.  You've been growing more and more into your range as an actor over this past year and it has been really nice to see that.
    • Vi - my comedy queen: I love watching you on stage because I know you are going to turn in a solid performance that I know that it will be wonderfully acted physically and vocally.  I can't wait to see what you do in the future.

Thank You!!
