Little Shop of Horrors - March 07 - March 09, 2024

Carleton Musical Theatre Society

 DIRECTOR'S NOTE

Welcome to our production of Little Shop of Horrors! It's an absolute delight to have you here. This musical gem has always held a special place in my heart, and I'm thrilled to bring it to life on our stage.

Little Shop of Horrors isn't just any musical – it's a darkly comedic exploration of the human condition. It's about dreams, desires, and the lengths we go to achieve them. But it's also a cautionary tale, reminding us that sometimes, our ambitions can lead us down a treacherous path.

In crafting this production, we made the decision to transport the story into modern times. The themes of Little Shop are as relevant today as they were when it first premiered. In our fast-paced, technology-driven world, the pursuit of fame, fortune, and love can feel all-consuming. But at what cost?

For long-time Little Shop fans, you may notice that we've taken a departure from some of the campier elements of the show - opting instead to delve deeper into the dramatic and emotional core of the story. By doing so, we aim to capture the raw humanity of these characters and the gravity of their choices.

So, as you settle into your seats and prepare to be swept away by the story of our characters - I invite you to ponder the parallels between their journey and our own lives. Let's explore together the timeless truths embedded in this charming, yet cautionary, musical.

Thank you for joining us on this adventure. We are so grateful you took the time to be here and support live theatre.

Enjoy the show,

Josh Rigo
