Little Women - May 01 - May 10, 2025

Centennial High School

  Director's Notes

Thank you all for coming to see "Little Women" I fell in love with Louise May Alcott's book when I was 8 years old. I have read and watched every version out there and have directed different versions of it four times. There is just something about the story that continues to draw me in. While there are parts that make me angry, the story of the sisters and their love for each other, continues to pull at my heart-strings. Many have said that this book was autobiographical for Alcott. That she saw much of herself in the character of Jo. If that is the case, then she was definitely a woman before her time. Jo's strength and determination to forge her own path, and not one that was told to her, is what I tend to connect with the most. I have always tried to be a person who forged her own path (much to my parent's dismay at times), but I always knew my family had my back and would support me. I am very lucky, and so was Jo, to have had this kind of support in my life and it has made me who I am today.

This show was a joy to work on! The kids and directors have worked so hard to bring it to you and we hope that you enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed preparing it for you. I feel very lucky that I get the opportunity to work with them every day, as they remind me over and over again about why I love theatre so much.

To Angel, Marychris, Riley, and Izzy-Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being so great to work with. You all go above and beyond your job titles, and most people don't know all of the work that you put in to make the show happen. I don't know how I would do my job without you!

To Morgan and Bree-Thank you for going alongside me for this journey. I know it wasn't always an easy road, but I hope it was always worth it. I consider you both more than colleagues, but rather my work wives and friends. You are astonishing at what you do and I pray you never forget that. The Centennial students and community are lucky to have you! I appreciate everything you have sacrificed to be able to do our productions, and I wish you both a little R and R when the show closes!!

To all of the parents, families, and volunteers who gave of their own time and time with their children to make this show happen:  We are grateful for your support and willingness to be a part of our greater CHS drama family and the appreciation abounds for all you have done for us.

Finally, to my husband, Darren:  I love you and am so grateful to have such a supportive partner who encourages me to continue to do this job that I love, and who takes care of me when I don't know if I can take care of myself.  To my son, Conner:  I am very proud of you following your dreams and appreciate that you still check in on me while you are away at college to make sure that I am ok. I love you. To my sweet Sydney: I am so proud of the person you are and that we share a passion for theatre. While I love watching my own students perform, my greatest joy is watching you and your brother do what you love. I am very honored to be your mom and I love you.

I hope you break MANY legs cast and crew!!

Respectfully-

Kellie McCarty
