While thinking about the fact that we are performing a holiday musical here at Central Primary, I engaged in some of Virginia's earnest skepticism -- is it all real? Fortunately for us, the answer to that question is also a resounding YES. Monumental thanks is extended to Macy's®, as its generosity was the foundation upon which this glittering, rollicking idea was built.
There is an abundance of gratitude to be spread like holiday cheer throughout these decked halls. The director tends to get the lion's share of the credit, but the genius part of good direction is simply gathering the right people before getting out of their way to let them do what they do best. Specifc mention is due to the following:
*Cast members & their families -- Thank you so much for your hard work & dedication. Undoubtedly, you are the stars of the show.
*Mrs. Bryant, my very first music teacher -- I have never forgotten your classes, & I still hold tight to my dream of being just like you.
*Tina -- You allowed the unimaginable to be imagined.
*Amber -- Your expertise was wildly appreciated.
*Sally -- An angel got its wings every time you took my kids to the bus circle.
*Robert Kennedy -- I'm sending out ripples of hope as quickly as I can because of you.
*Teacher Crew -- Thanks for following me into the fire, armed with extinguishers.
*Kaci, Leaner, & Erica -- A table needs 4 legs to stand. Thanks for propping me up.
*Mother -- No one ever really needs a reason to thank his or her mother, but you have given me plenty reasons nonetheless. You're still my favorite teacher.
*Maybelle & Henry -- I hope that you share Virginia's fervent belief in all good things, that you inherit your mama's ability to fix a Christmas light fuse, & that you understand what I mean when I tell you about the rush & thrill of being onstage & how it pales in comparison to the rush & thrill of being your daddy.
*Jessica -- Without you, I would most certainly be as cranky as Frank Church. You're the Bette Midler song from Beaches except we're married & neither of us are dying. Thank you for my haircuts & for packing my lunch. Each Christmas, I find you to be the best gift in the prettiest wrapping. Bo & Hope forever.
Artistry has bloomed here at Central Primary, & I hope that it continues to flourish. If you are reading this, join me in a continued advocacy for arts integration & incorporation in our schools. We are working hard to ensure that our students have every benefit necessary to succeed in an ever-changing world, but we mustn't allow them to be deprived of the learning opportunities presented through the arts. I hope this show is part of a continued trend.
Thanks for letting me lead us to this road, for trusting me behind the wheel, & for coming along for the ride.
Look into your heart & find the hidden wonders there.
