William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night - November 14 - November 22, 2014

Chaminade College Preparatory High School

 Director's Note

Dear Patron of the Arts,

I am in love with this play!

Twins Viola and Sebastian are shipwrecked and end up in Illyria.  Orsino loves Olivia, but she pays him no mind. Olivia loves Viola, whom she believes to be a boy. Viola loves Orsino, and he has no idea she’s a girl. Toby Belch, Andrew, Feste, Fabian and Maria love playing pranks on Malvolio who is in love with love (and himself).  These are a few of the characters you will meet in our production of Twelfth Night.

We have adapted William Shakespeare’s timeless comedy, Twelfth Night and have thrown in a contemporary score, a gorgeous villa, and a steam punk flavor.

I am in love with this set!

Three time ovation award winning set designer, Jeff McLaughlin has outdone himself. He listened to a director’s vision and surpassed all expectations! Tech Director, Mike Davis, and the stage crew have flawlessly executed the build and scenic artist, Lacey Anzelc and the scenic crew have masterfully added color to the world of Illyria.

I am in love with this cast, this crew and this band!!

This cast and crew have blown me away; their dedication in working on the language of this play, learning music, swordplay, building, painting, creating! They have learned how to be leaders and how to take ownership of a program and I am beyond proud of each and every one of them. It has been a joy to direct and guide their performances into the creation of believable characters! Our stage managers would be welcome on any professional production and our creative team is truly made up of exceptional human beings and we are blessed to have them sharing their gifts with us. Stephen Bishop’s energetic, purposeful and creative fight direction and Nancy Dobbs Owen’s fun, steam punk dance finale all serve to make this production one of my favorites! And who would ever guess that our music director was a high school senior! Alex Mansour is truly one of the most gifted individuals that I have ever had the pleasure to work with.

Special thanks go out to our Drama parent reps and volunteers for taking such good care of us! And to the angels who show up and lend a hand when it is most needed, Mike Davis’s trusty sidekick, Brother Tom Oles and Mr. Dennis Haas—thank you!

Thank you for your support of the arts!

Please allow yourself to be swept away to the land of Illyria and fall in love with love, laugh yourself silly and enjoy the language of William Shakespeare!

We look forward to seeing you next semester for the Chaminade Players production of Beauty and the Beast in March.

     And now for the play…

“If music be the food of love, play on…"

Yours in the Arts,
