WELCOME TO MAMMA MIA! You are about to have a fabulous time!
I am constantly in awe of the work that young people are willing to do in the spirit of collaboration and art. I am grateful to so many who have been there to make this production the success that I believe it will be!
This "jukebox musical" provides us all an opportunity to find escape from the many turmoils that we feel around us. When I shared my design concept with my technical theatre students, I specifically wanted to find ways to bridge old with newer (90s) which is why you see the Compact Discs outlining the stage.
A successful musical should provide everyone with a connection to the subject matter, and I believe that this show is able to do two fold through the music, and design of it alone.
Finally, I hope you really enjoy the dancing in this show! It has been amazing to watch our brilliant choreographer, Cory Willis work so efficiently and creatively with he students. I am forever grateful to him as well as our Junior theatre guild student, Jack Heaphy who also choreographed several numbers--- including the finale.
About the show:
Before you is the story of Donna Sheridan, willful and strong, a singer with her own band, with a free-enterprising spirit that is accountable to no one. We know who this girl is. Her allure is vivacious and irresistible. What nobody could know about Donna, however, is that she would end up on a Greek isle, the working class owner of a taverna and mother to a daughter, Sophie, whose father is one of three men, though Donna cannot discern which one.
And here we are now, twenty years later, 1999 - as our story unfolds on the eve of Sophie’s nuptials. The rest unfolds before you....
All of this storytelling is made all the more fun as told to a string of internationally chart-topping hits millions have come to love. These tunes were penned by ABBA, one of the most successful pop music bands of all time, inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010!
This story fascinates. It is so needed and welcome these days to reflect on the good that life can bring out in us and in our relationships. Delightfully beautiful to me is that Sophie surely does that. A traditional girl creates a non-traditional family all for the love of wanting to find her father… and she finds even more!
ENJOY THE SHOW!
