Based on the classic story by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol: A New Musical shares the story of the miserly and cold-hearted accountant, Ebenezer Scrooge. Scrooge is visited by three ghostly guests who remind, encourage, and warn him of his life and the lonely direction he is headed if he does not change his greedy, unkind ways. |
“Compassion and greed, redemption and guilt, the themes that come to life in Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol offer simple yet profound illustrations of how the hardest of hearts can be transformed when repentance leads to renewal,” writes author Bob Welch in 52 Little Lessons From A Christmas Carol. That analysis of the literary classic is at the heart of Christ Wesleyan Theatre Productions' decision to bring this show back to our stage.
First published in 1843, A Christmas Carol offers the stuff that good stories are made of… love, betrayal, a few chills, the impossible, and, ultimately, redemption. This musical version allows everything I love about the story and the songs of the season to come together. My hope is to offer a timeless tale to you in a way you’ve not seen before with a completely new set, special effects, and staging.
Still, with all these enhancements and stage marvels, don’t miss the focal point of the story. Our past is what it is--we can’t change that. If we live in it too long, our present life is limited and often compromised without any hope of a future. Jesus Christ offers us a pardon for our past through the cross, a present life full of joy as a result, and a future with the hope of eternal life. Before you say, “Bah humbug!”, consider these truths for yourselves paralleled in A Christmas Carol: A New Musical and join Scrooge in an outcome that could change your life. Thank you for supporting this ministry! Blessings to you, and Merry Christmas!
