Four years ago, District 99 established a Fine Arts Theater program. Such an exciting time for us and for our students! Our producer, Ted Henley had faith in a group of teachers and we all decided our very first musical for our 4th through 8th grade students would be “Shrek Junior”. And then the world shut down….
Move forward to 2023, Ted, with his group of dedicated teachers, decided once again, “We vote Shrek! Let’s do this!” Even with scheduling conflicts, personal issues and other challenges, we are so glad that we are finally able to present you with this show that has meant so much to all of us!
What started as a group of 42 students became a family and truly a community. I cannot say how proud we are of our students. These kids have become their characters, stepped out of their comfort zones and allowed themselves to be someone or something they never thought possible! They are acting, they are singing, they are dancing! They are thespians! And we are so thrilled to be a part of this wonderful experience!
I would like to thank the Production Staff for Shrek Junior: Mr. Ted Henley, our producer, Ms. Ashley Stopczynski (my yin to my yang), Mr. Michael Mayer, our musical director, Ms. Kayla King, our choreographer and Ms. Kevie Yu (who literally is so flexible with my changes and so easy going!), props, costumer and set designer. Without these wonderful people this production would not take place.
We are so grateful to our families and friends who have supported this journey with us- you have gotten your child to rehearsals and followed a schedule that at times had us baffled as well! LOL!
To our District 99 Family, thank you for giving us this wonderful opportunity to see everyone shine!
