Director’s Notes: High School Musical on Stage!

Welcome to East High!

When we first sat down to discuss bringing High School Musical to our stage, the immediate reaction was often a nostalgic grin. We all know the songs, the "Status Quo," and the "Wildcat" spirit. But beneath the catchy pop hooks and the basketball jerseys lies a story that is more relevant today than ever: the courage to step out of the box.

High school is often a time of "either/or." You are either an athlete or a mathlete; a skater or a brainiac; a performer or a wallflower. Our production aims to challenge that binary. Troy and Gabriella’s journey isn't just about a musical; it’s about the radical idea that a person can be a star point guard and a lead tenor.

We wanted to explore what happens when you break the "Status Quo" and how that ripple effect gives everyone else permission to be their authentic selves.

A Note of Gratitude

To the cast and crew: Thank you for your tireless dedication. You’ve balanced rehearsals with your own exams, sports, and jobs—proving every day that you, too, are more than just one thing.

To the audience: We hope this show reminds you of the time you first found your "voice," or perhaps inspires you to find a new one tonight.

As we say in the locker room and on the stage: We’re all in this together.
