Hello and welcome to our 2025 production of Les Misérables: School Edition. We are thrilled to bring this musical to the CHS stage as it centers on the powerful objective to "ensemble the unseen." This objective has helped guide us as we explore one of the most beloved and profound stories in musical theatre. This production invites both our performers and our audience to delve into the complexities and hidden depths of characters whose struggles, hopes, and dreams often lie beneath the surface.
To "ensemble the unseen" within Les Misérables is to illuminate the subtle, intimate moments and internal battles faced by each character—from Jean Valjean’s quest for redemption, Javert’s rigid pursuit of justice, Fantine’s sacrifice, to the revolutionary spirit of young dreamers yearning for change. We aim to bring out the authenticity and humanity within each role, enabling deeper empathy and connection with the audience.
This objective resonates deeply with our theatre department’s overarching commitment to goodwill, generosity, and kindness. By nurturing these values within our rehearsal process and community, we encourage a supportive environment where students feel empowered to fully embody their roles, collaborate openly, and discover new perspectives. Our approach emphasizes compassion, collaboration, and nuanced storytelling, allowing the richness and emotional depth of Victor Hugo's iconic tale to resonate clearly.
By highlighting these unseen narratives, our production underscores the timeless relevance of Les Misérables—a story of resilience, forgiveness, and ultimately, hope. The creative team, cast, and crew sincerely thank you for your support and your shared love of theatre, which fuels our creative journey. I would love to share my appreciation and love for the theatre, my family, my students, and my friends. Together we will always be stronger and art will continue to thrive. Please sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
With appreciation,
Jared A. Helm, M.T.S.
