Bright Star - November 04 - November 06, 2021

 From the Director

Bright Star is a musical that strikes at the heart of every viewer.  Based on a true incident, this production is a beautiful tale set in the heart of the hills of North Carolina.  At the core of Bright Star is a poignant tale of redemption.  The fact of the matter is, all of us have been offered redemption, freely given.  Despite our failures and flaws, we are given a second chance--sometimes a third, fourth, and fifth chance.

There is a delicate balance of tragedy and hope in this show.  Out of the midst of a tragedy, we often see hope arise.  Human beings are resilient and resolute.  When bad things happen, humanity rises up.  We have all seen a lot of tragedy over the past two years.  Living through a worldwide pandemic has changed our perspective, changed what we value as important.  Despite the tragedy all around us, there is hope.  There will always be hope.

We are presenting something raw and real to you, and it has been a journey to explore these emotions, especially with high school students.  This based-on-a-true-tale chases two interwoven stories of love, laughter, heartbreak, and redemption.  The fact of the matter is, we all have a story to tell.  Some of those stories are not pretty, but they shape who we are, and no matter how ugly our story may be, we all have a chance to come home again. We sincerely hope that you are able to connect with the emotions that are prevalent in this show.  This is a discussion we have had many times as a cast.  From the very first read-through, our focus was the emotion of each scene. We do not take our job lightly.

We hope that you are able to sit back and immerse yourself in the show, and even if your story seems chaotic and hectic at this moment, no matter what you have gone through or what you have done, just know that the sun is going to shine again!

Enjoy the show!
